What's involved? We are looking for volunteers to support our Dementia Advisers in Barnet, to support people who have had a recent diagnosis of dementia. This role is based at our office in Barnet: Alzheimer's Society Barnet Dementia Hub, Salvation Army, 1-5 Brampton Grove, Hendon, NW4 4AE. We are asking for a commitment of a few hours per week, between Monday to Friday (9am - 5pm). The role of the volunteer can include: Be an additional named contact that complements the dementia adviser, supporting individuals who have a diagnosis of dementia, or are in the process of receiving a diagnosis, as well as their immediate family and friends. Meet people (at the office or at home if required) to support them in accessing and understanding information Meet people (at the office or at home if required) to support them in accessing services to which they have been signposted. Inputting information onto the database Undertaking monthly telephone reviews calls to service users This role will suit you if you... Are able to communicate clearly Are a good listener, have empathy, are able to identify people's needs and respond according to their preferences Have an understanding or experience of dementia and the health and social care environment, or are willing to learn Are able to maintain clear record keeping and have have basic IT skills Are prepared to complete an induction into the role, necessary training and attend future support meetings References and an enhanced Criminal Record (DBS) check are required for this role No specific qualifications or experience are needed, however good IT skills (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, using the internet etc), would be beneficial for this role. The impact you'll make Dementia Adviser's provide information, advice and signposting service, for people that are newly diagnosed or seeking a diagnosis of dementia. As a Dementia Adviser volunteer you will complementing their role and supporting the Dementia Advisers to support newly diagnosed people affected with dementia.
