Facilities Maintenance Technician Diamond Light Source Didcot, Swindon £25,881 - £30,449 per annum (Discretionary range to £35,016) Ref: 10230 Diamond light Source is seeking a permanent member of staff to work within the Building Fabric team of the Installation & Facilities Group, to carry out maintenance, repairs and upgrades to various parts of the building structure. As a Facilities Maintenance Technician, you will report directly to the Senior Facilities Technician. The role is very much hands on and your tasks will include carrying out the maintenance, repairs, surveys, inspections, fault diagnosis and upgrades to the building fabric of all buildings within the Diamond site. Including but not restricted to the following: Gutters, solar protection screens, multiple types of flooring, suspended ceilings, steelwork, roofing systems, rain screen cladding, fire/smoke protection solutions, decoration and handrails. Some liaison with external contractors may be required from time to time so experience of supervising specialist contractors would be beneficial. You will be a key member of the building fabric team so considerable previous experience of building fabric maintenance is essential as is suitable experience/training with regard working at height. Data Acquisition Software Engineer The Data Acquisition Software Product Diamond requires a continual technology refresh to deliver cutting edge experimental capabilities. An essential component of Diamond's technical estate is its Data Acquisition (DAQ) software, GDA, which is responsible for: Programmatic orchestration of beamline experiments; Capture and storage of experimental data; Real-time visualisation of collected data. GDA is a client-server application written in Java, making use of the Eclipse RCP framework. The GDA server communicates with beamline hardware via an EPICS interface to provide a control and monitor capability and deliver high-level experimental functions. The GDA client provides both a GUI and a Jython scripting capability for users to control experiments. We are looking for Our Data Acquisition Software team are looking to recruit two Software Engineers to join the team supporting and developing the GDA software, which is used throughout the organisation to conduct scientific experiments. Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate experience in the full Software Development Lifecycle, using Core Java and Python for back-end application development, and an understanding of good software design principals and design for usability. A degree level qualification in science, engineering, mathematics or computer science is essential.
