Senior Engineer - Shock Qualification & Acceptance Would you like to be a part of the Shock and Dynamics department, supporting all major submarine platforms? We currently have a vacancy for Senior Engineer - Shock Qualification & Acceptance at our site in Barrow. As a Senior Engineer - Shock Qualification & Acceptance, you will be involved in the design of resiliently mounted modules/rafts and mounting arrangements to provide shock and vibro-acoustic isolation; support and advice, in deriving the shock transversal requirements, including ensuring the product can demonstrably withstand the effects of a Non-Contact Underwater Explosion. The position will provide you with excellent career progression opportunities and you will be fully supported in your development within BAE Systems. Your main responsibilities as a Senior Engineer - Shock Qualification & Acceptance will involve: Providing specialist advice, active surveillance and representation at project design reviews to ensure compliance with shock design requirements Supporting the production teams in the assessment and resolution of production queries & issues, coordinating the input from the wider engineering team Being involved in the facilitation and control of technical interactions between industrial partners on matters of shock design and qualification Support the on-going equipment shock testing activity, providing support at test facilities and where necessary, the design and co-ordination of manufacture of supporting test rigs Your skills and qualifications: Degree in STEM subjects, or equivalent experience A basic understanding of fundamental mechanical dynamic principles and an awareness of how these are applied in the design process (eg mass, stiffness, material properties, natural frequencies etc.). An understanding of Finite Element Analysis. Experience with 3D CAD design interrogation and basic draughting skills would be an advantage (eg CADDS5, EPD Connect, Visualiser, Foran etc.) Desirable: Experience with shock or equipment testing would be ideal. Experience of Technical report writing and the ability to explain specific technical concepts to non-specialists Experience of seeking out required information to drive solutions to problems through to fruition General awareness of the basic functions of typical naval and marine systems (specifically submarine systems) What we're looking for in you: You will have good communication skills both written and verbal.
