SALARY & BENEFITS: £3.70 - £7.83 dependent upon age
WORKING HOURS: 32.5 hours per week, term time only - Fixed term 12 months (to start asap)
THE COMPANY: Pear Tree School is an outstanding school for children and young people aged 2-19 years with severe and profound and multiple learning difficulties with currently 102 on role.
THE ROLE: An Apprentice Teaching Assistant is required to join our team. We wish them to share our educational philosophy on the provision of high-quality, creative learning opportunities with a view to developing the whole child. The successful apprentice will be supporting to provide a safe, happy and exciting learning environment, which enables our children to acquire a wide range of knowledge, skills and practical abilities.
Under the guidance of teachers, the successful candidate will be involved in working with individuals or small groups of children to support the education and personal and social development of pupils with severe and/or profound and multiple learning difficulties. To establish positive relationships to assist pupils complete structured learning activities
Key Responsibilities of the Apprentice Teaching Assistant Level 2 to include:-
• Support to implement learning activities working with individual or small groups of pupils • Support to assist the development of varying skills that support pupils' learning. • Support in producing learning resources • Support to assist in pupil supervision • Support in monitoring and recording of pupil progress and developmental needs • Meeting the personal and intimate care needs of pupils across the age range • Assisting in the postural management of pupils with physical difficulties • Reporting pupil progress to the teacher • Work within the schools policy and procedures • Working to the relevant apprenticeship standard/framework and completing work in a timely manner
In addition to the accountabilities above, the apprentice may be required to undertake any of the duties normally associated with a Teaching Assistant to support with their training and development.
THE CANDIDATE: Applicants wishing to apply for this Apprentice Teaching Assistant Level 2 position should ideally have GCSE Maths and English at grade C/ Grade 4 or equivalent although this is not an essential requirement for the role; if the applicant does not have these qualifications these will need to be undertaken alongside the apprenticeship.
The successful candidate would also have the following skills:
• Good team player • Good communicator with parents, teachers and pupils • Good time management skills • Good organisational skills • Knowledge and understanding of confidentiality • Ability to use ICT • Ability to work towards the apprenticeship standard/framework • Experience of working with or caring for children of a relevant age in a voluntary or work experience capacity is desirable.
