Location: Moorfields, London
Contract type: Permanent
Hours per week: 35
Salary: Circa £28,000 per annum (inc London weighting)

Do you want to join an award-winning media team? Do you want to give a voice to people in crisis? We are looking for an outstanding individual with excellent media experience to join us and help take our engagement and influencing to the next level.

What you will be doing
In the UK and overseas, our staff and volunteers respond to some of the most defining issues of our time. These range from the health and social care needs of an ageing population; domestic terror attacks and emergencies; the refugee crisis and global emergencies from natural disasters, protracted conflict and chronic hunger.

As PR Officer you will provide dedicated media support on all aspects our UK and international work, working with the PR manager to develop public relations plans that are informed by a robust understanding of the organisation's priority external audiences.

Utilising advanced journalistic and creative skills and experience to build relations with new audiences, you will work on British Red Cross appeals, advocacy campaigns and day-to-day engagement activity including media, advocacy, social media and marketing initiatives.

Meet the team
The PR Officer will report to and work closely with the PR manager.

They will also work with the rest of the media team and digital, fundraising and beneficiary communications, as well as the wider communications and engagement directorate and other departments to ensure an integrated communications offer to the rest of the organisation.

What we are looking for
To succeed in this role you'll have a sound knowledge of UK media with a strong understanding of what makes a good story and how to deliver campaigns.

With significant experience working with the media either as a journalist, working in PR or media relations, you will have an understanding of the way digital media is affecting the news environment.

You should also have experience of working with journalists, responding to queries and pitching story ideas as well as experience of briefing and advising media spokespeople for interviews.
