Environmental Advisor Birmingham/Peterborough
I hope to further expand my knowledge in various environmental parameters and adapt and learn further skills to help in my development within a role such as this. I believe that the importance of this role is next to none, with the need of environmental specialists increasing in both a local and global scale. My degree in Geology and Physical Geography from the University of Birmingham has allowed for key skills to be developed such as rock logging, water and soil sampling shown through onsite experience, laboratory research and producing reports and papers. My degree also allowed an understanding of ground stability, sedimentology and ecology among much more. I believe my main suitability for this role, falls within my dissertation project working alongside the BGS. During the production of my dissertation I gained experience and application of skills such as water contamination analysis, soil and land contamination analysis and ground stability. To complete this project, I undertook several weeks of onsite analysis and used a variety of techniques including ArcGIS to interpret data. My dissertation was based around analysis of land and water contamination in post-industrial sites in the Black Country compared to sites with no past industrial land using a range of geo-environmental research and skills during this period. Relevant experience has been gained through my employment at HS2. I have been employed as an Environmental and Engineering Team Coordinator and during this employment I have been tasked with many environment focused projects. This includes, reviewing the land quality sections of the formal Environmental Statement, yet to be published and live editing sections of the Environmental Statement along with government bodies and internal colleagues. I have co-authored a paper focused around the environmental benefits of HS2 which was presented to the Director of Environment and Parliamentary Agents, among others. I have represented the environment team at design meetings to discuss mitigation and I weekly consolidate environment progress and milestones to present to the wider environmental team. I have further increased my skill set by assisting the GIS team with data processing and joined the engagement team liaising with the public at consultation events. I believe that I am suitable for the role as I am extremely hardworking and dedicated to my role. I pride myself on being punctual and being able to work both within a team and individually to meet goals and tasks that have been set. I have excellent organisational skills, displayed through my role on a university committee as the social secretary. This has led me to organise large scale events such as a large winter ball, trips out to the bowling alley and meals out for over 100 people. I can quickly build strong working relationships with clients, management and colleagues to provide a professional and comfortable working arrangement. My current employment has developed my knowledge within the industry, something that I wish to continue expanding and building on my skill set. I am extremely adaptable and very keen to pick up new tasks and challenges that I may face within the role. Thank you for your time and I hope to discuss my suitability for this role with you further.
